In Snape:  The Definitive Analysis of Hogwarts’s Mysterious Potions Master, Lorrie Kim explores one of the most intriguing characters in English literature.  Debates about Professor Snape from the Harry Potter series remain volatile to this day.  This double agent can be interpreted as good or evil, remorseful or scheming, according to whatever means most to the reader.  Lorrie takes readers deep into the text to examine how J.K. Rowling achieved a character with near-perfect ambiguity on the surface and a single true self at his core.
 

Lorrie writes pop-culture and literary criticism, often with a focus on intersectional feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, and inclusive literature. She co-hosts the weekly podcast Harry Potter After 2020 with Lorrie Kim and JC. She is a columnist for MuggleNet, a frequent speaker at Harry Potter academic conferences, an organizing team member for MISTI-Con 2023, and a regular contributor to fandom podcasts. Her articles have appeared in Outsports, the Advocate, and the Philadelphia Gay News.

As an editor, Lorrie worked closely with legendary figure skating judge Sonia Bianchetti Garbato on her 2004 memoir Cracked Ice:Figure Skating’s Inner World.She has also edited English translations of Korean media such as film and TV captions, picture books, and an art history textbook.

From 1998 to 2003, Lorrie maintained Rainbow Ice, the first website devoted to LGBTQ issues in figure skating.She has contributed to coverage on this subject for Newsweek, the Washington Post, the autobiography of Rudy Galindo, the podcast Blind Landing, and more.

Lorrie has been a quiltmaker for over 30 years and sometimes incorporates fiber art and craftivism into her work.She is an alumna of Bryn Mawr College and lives in Philadelphia, PA with her adored spouse and offspring.
